One of my readers recently asked if it were possible to remove the date from a Squarespace blog post, so in this video, I will demonstrate two methods for doing just that.
Note: Altering a blog post’s publication date will alter its order on both the Blog Page and Archives (newer posts will appear first and older posts at the bottom), making this an essential consideration when making changes.
1. Click on the blog post you want to edit.
Dated blog posts help readers gauge when your content was last published and whether or not they want to read it, while their date also helps search engines index it more easily. But, if you prefer a cleaner look or greater control of how your blog displays itself, there are a number of methods you can employ in Squarespace blog to remove the date entirely from each post.
Squarespace provides built-in tools to hide blog dates and metadata; however, these only work with specific templates. If you use your own template or want to make this change across all of your posts at once, Custom CSS would be necessary.
Before creating your blog page, navigate to the Pages tab and click the + icon. Select Blog as one of your page types from the drop-down list; additionally you may choose from among our collection of predefined blog layouts in the sidebar.
Once your blog page has been established, you can begin adding posts. Each will appear either as a list or grid, depending on your template. In addition to this you can add a blog section to your navigation as well as an archive block which displays all of your blog entries in one convenient place.
2. Click on the date field.
Squarespace is a web development and hosting service offering software as a service (SaaS). Users have access to pre-built templates and drag-and-drop elements to easily build websites, making Squarespace ideal for small business owners, solopreneurs and creative professionals who require comprehensive tools that handle everything from online commerce to marketing automation without custom coding requirements.
However, users of Squarespace may encounter complications when working with older content or optimizing for search engines. When creating blog posts using the system will assign them an automatic publication date that may cause confusion for visitors if edits have taken place since their original release. Furthermore, this factor could hinder SEO performance as Google takes into account when ranking websites.
To address this problem, users can alter the publication date of a Squarespace blog post by following these steps. Doing so will keep content fresh and organized while also helping keep tabs on changes over time.
If your version 7.1 templates don’t allow you to conceal authors and dates from blog posts, use a summary block as an effective solution to avoid confusion when writing blog posts. This method provides another means of keeping readers informed.
3. Choose a new date.
Changes to the date may impact how Google indexes your blog post; to prevent this, only alter it if absolutely necessary. Also keep in mind that any links shared for that post on social media or other sites could potentially break if its date changes significantly.
Squarespace allows users to choose whether their blog post displays or conceals its publication date, which can be helpful if evergreen content needs to be hidden, or old blog posts needing updating. There’s no built-in option for doing this though – extra work may be necessary!
Squarespace is an accessible website building platform, offering the freedom to create and manage a website without needing prior coding experience. Unfortunately, its more nuanced settings may prove confusing at times – thankfully there are numerous resources online to assist in your understanding. From understanding how the blogging tool works to customizing page templates – there’s sure to be something useful out there to assist your business needs!
4. Click Save.
If you don’t already have one, blogging is an easy and engaging way to showcase your content and engage readers. All templates available through Squarespace template shop support blogs; some even come equipped with specific blogging features like post thumbnail images that display in blog lists or featured posts which create page banners.
Once you’ve chosen a template, create your blog by setting up a Blog page and posting to it. Customize this blog page further by choosing themes or adding custom CSS that suits the look you are going for in your blog.
As an SEO best practice, ensure your blog is optimized to attract readers and potential customers through search engine-friendliness. By assigning categories, tags, and keywords for every post on your blog, Google and other search engines will easily locate it. Furthermore, adding an SEO plugin will further ensure posts are optimized for search engine optimization (SEO), competing against websites built using other CMS platforms.
Though removing dates from your blog posts might seem tempting, be mindful that doing so could negatively impact both audience experience and how search engines view your site. As such, we advise against this practice, particularly if multiple contributors will be contributing.
