Guide to Transfer a Squarespace Site To Another Account

Transferring your Squarespace site can be relatively straightforward; just keep a few key details in mind during the process.

Manual copy/paste can be time consuming but is the primary means for migrating from 7.0 to 7.1, here are a few strategies to make the process smoother.

Export

As one of the easiest ways to move content from one Squarespace site to another is using its built-in Export/Import feature, using this tool is a must. Just log into the account that currently houses your website, go into its Settings, find Advanced, click Import/Export, select your entire site or individual items for exporting and select Import Site from its options provided after it has been exported.

Use of the Import/Export tool will transfer content and images, but will not transfer custom code, third-party integrations, payments you made for Squarespace services (e.g. domain registration or G Suite), blog posts nor URL redirects that have been set up will need to be manually recreated on your new account.

While technically possible to duplicate an entire website within a Squarespace account by exporting and importing content, this practice is not supported by Squarespace as there can be many potential complications that arise such as missing data, incorrect parent/child page relationships and broken links that arise as a result.

Therefore, we advise contacting Squarespace support prior to using this method. Furthermore, please keep in mind that if transferring a site from one Squarespace account to another, its new owner must first become an author on its current website before initiating transfer attempts.

To achieve this, they should be invited as contributors with access to the Site Permissions dashboard. After inviting them as contributors, please follow this tutorial on Taking Over a Squarespace Site to transfer ownership to them. It should be noted that once ownership changes hands, all existing subscriptions for that website (Google Workspace, Squarespace domains and/or Scheduling and Email Campaigns) will cease; thus requiring new payments arrangements from its new owner within their account in order to continue making payments for these services.

Import

If you do not have access to your old site’s account but would still like to import its content onto another Squarespace account, Squarespace’s Import feature makes the transfer simple. Simply log into the site from which you wish to move content and navigate to Settings before selecting Advanced then Import for this step-by-step transfer of pages or blog posts. To get started with Squarespace Import: Firstly log into it as usual then navigate directly into Import within Settings from which your content needs transferring – follow instructions as above from there onwards if applicable

Importing websites can be time-consuming and complicated if there is an abundance of content to move over. But this method provides much faster and simpler results than manually copying and pasting it from one site to the next.

Before beginning the import process, it’s wise to conduct a site health audit on the current Squarespace site that you will be migrating content from. This will enable you to identify any errors or issues that must be rectified prior to beginning migration on the new website.

To do so, log into your current Squarespace site and visit Settings. From here, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Advanced; this will allow you to generate a report detailing its current state; once done, forward this report along to any prospective new site owners in order for them to make any necessary corrections on their new sites.

Once your new website has been transferred, it is essential to update any URL slugs that have changed and create redirects so traffic goes directly to where it should. Furthermore, changing your subscription email address could prevent future billing issues.

Transferring a Squarespace site can be a complex endeavor, especially if there’s lots of content to move across. However, there are various methods for doing this that should help find an ideal solution for you and your needs.

Copy & Paste

There are multiple methods available to you for moving content between Squarespace websites, including using the export/import tool or copy and pasting. But if you have a lot of material to move around, these may take too much time; therefore, third-party tools may be more suitable.

If you wish to keep your existing Squarespace site intact while switching the domain address, duplicating can create an entirely new site with all its content. To do this, log into your account dashboard and navigate to Permission Settings page of your website before selecting “Duplicate Site” from the drop-down menu.

Duplicating a website makes it the first one in your account and its name ends with (Copy). After duplication is completed, the former owner still remains as an active contributor and can update billing information or cancel subscriptions as before; they simply cannot access their original site anymore.

To connect their site to Squarespace, the new owner must add a domain. When this domain is connected, all existing site settings and inactive domains will be transferred over.

Once a Squarespace website has been transferred to another account, its new owner must make certain updates to billing details such as updating credit cards on file for billing. They should also review any existing subscriptions such as Member Area, Google Analytics, Appointment Scheduling or Email Campaigns before deciding if they wish to keep them and remove contributors who were part of its previous ownership as contributors.

Once transferred, Squarespace sites can usually be transferred as often as necessary between accounts, with each new owner taking any necessary steps such as changing passwords or providing updated contact info in their Squarespace accounts.

If all other solutions fail, an unofficial Squarespace plugin or extension could help automate the process. One such example is Squarespace Tools Extension Pro which serves as an advanced content migration tool. While this requires paying for a premium account with Squarespace, it provides powerful solutions for migrating content between sites.

Third-Party Services

Third-party services that facilitate content transfers between Squarespace sites can be an efficient and time-saving solution to moving websites. By eliminating manual copy/paste work, these services make moving easier than ever! There are various services available; choose one that best meets your needs.

Content Robot is one of the premier third-party services for transferring content between Squarespace sites. This service allows you to import your entire website or individual pages and posts, making the process quick and painless – you’ll only need a few minutes after that to add it all on to your new site using its HTML file generated by Content Robot!

Cloudflare provides another excellent way to move content between Squarespace websites without incurring extra costs, with similar features such as Content Robot but offering easier and simpler navigation and customization features, such as CNAME record support.

If you wish to connect a third-party domain name with your Squarespace website, full control over its DNS settings are needed. This typically can only be accomplished if the domain was registered through a provider which offers such options; once connected it may take up to 72 hours for changes to propagate across the internet.

Once the migration is complete, you can begin using your site with confidence. Before launching it, run a health check to make sure all of your content has been transferred successfully and contact Squarespace support if any problems arise during migration.

If you have multiple Squarespace accounts, one way to consolidate them into one primary account is by transferring ownership. Whomever takes over ownership must first become an admin contributor; for this transfer to be successful. Hence the need to invite this individual prior to completion.
