How to Remove or Get Rid of Powered by Shopify Footer?

Shopify is a great platform for building your e-commerce website. It’s a great platform, but it may not be the best idea to tell people that Shopify is what our stores are built with. We are referring to the Shopify tagline “Powered by Shopify” in your website’s footer.

This article contains a step by-step guide that will help you get rid of the Shopify “Powered by Shopify” link at the bottom.

How do I remove Powered by Shopify from my website?

It’s easy, actually. The steps will vary depending on the theme you choose, your technical knowledge and your preferences. However, they are the same for all stores.

To demonstrate how to remove “Powered by Shopify”, we will use the “Debut” theme. The steps for other themes are similar.

Method 1 : Use Edit code to remove Powered by Shopify

Step 1 Online Shop > Themes > Actions

Log in to your store administrator. Navigate to Shopify’s admin dashboard and click on Themes. Select Edit code when you see the drop-down Actions.

Step 2: Sections > footer.liquid

Open the Folder for Sections, which will contain the file “footer.liquid”. On the right, the coding will open.

Step 3 Ctrl+ F (Command +F) > Search powered_by_link

The code search box will open. If you’re using Mac OS, press Command and F simultaneously. If you are a Mac user, press the Command and F simultaneously.

Step 4 Delete “powered_by_link”

You must delete the following code powered_by_link.

You may need to delete more than one bracketed code depending on the theme you use. If you are using non-sectioned themes, your code may be slightly different, but it should still include powered_by_link.

Step 5 Click Save

After you have removed all three bits of code, click the Save button in the upper right corner. Congratulations! Congratulations! Note: If you want to modify your Shopify theme you will need to go through the same steps as above. The changes you make will only be applicable to the selected theme.

Method 2 – Remove Shopify Powered using Edit language

You can also use the alternate method below if the first method fails. You can also choose Edit code ( recommended by Shopify).

Step 1 – Online Shop > Themes > Actions

Similar to before, head to Shopify Dashboard. Click on the left sidebar and click Online stores. Next, choose the icon Labeled Themes. You will now see the page with your active theme. You will see a drop-down menu with an option to Edit languages. Click on it.

Step 2 Enter “powered” into the Filter box

The faded Powered by Shopify placeholder will appear under sections like Check out & Systems / Links or General /Password Page. You can simply press space to make the faded text disappear. You can do the same thing with the HTML search bar.

Step 3 Click Save

To save your changes, scroll back to the top-right of the screen. Click the Save button. That’s it! You have successfully removed Powered By Shopify from the check out page as well as the password page.

Method 3 – Remove powered by Shopify using the mobile app

Is it possible to remove Powered by Shopify

The answer is yes.

You can choose to do so, but there are many good reasons to get rid of the “Powered by Shopify” link.

  • First, customers may be confused if they see a brand not owned by you.
  • You should also use the footer to promote your brand and not give it to Shopify.
  • You may also wish to remove the “Powered by Shopify” tag for aesthetic reasons.

According to one study by Consumer Reports the average customer pays more attention the superficial aspects of websites than the content.

Let’s imagine! Most potential customers want to be sure that the store they are considering purchasing is reliable before making a purchase. They would first check the social media profiles of your business.

They immediately notice the “Powered by Shopify” link, and they ignore the social media links.

  1. You can’t make your own decisions.
  2. They may be able to find the product at a lower price elsewhere.
  3. This is a skill you probably don’t have a lot of.

It is advisable to remove the Powered by Shopify footer hyperlink as soon as you can.

What should you put in the footer, instead of Powered By Shopify?

Instead of “Powered by Shopify”, add a trust logo from trusted brands such as Visa, MasterCard and PayPal. Money-back guarantees, social media links, contact information and your contact information in footer will likely increase trust.

Check out this Shopify case study by Teepee Joy, one of our most successful stores that uses EcomSolid.

  1. Teepee Joy stores accepts Mastercard and Visa payment options. This increases trust.
  2. The store’s “Free Shipping”, the “Free Returns”, or “Save & Secure Checkout”, badges give off a sense of security and emphasise its excellent customer service.
  3. You will notice that the link is personalized to the name of the store owner, rather than “Powered by Shopify”.

The trust badge can be used immediately after you have applied our theme EcomSolid. Drag and drop the theme to customize it to your site. Your imagination is the only limitation.
