Shopify Product with Variants Affecting Price

Reading Time: 2 minutes

There are a lot of factors that go into setting the price of a product, and sometimes it can be difficult to know which ones to take into account. One of the most important factors is the variant – do different versions of a product have different prices? If so, what are their ranges?

What is a Variant?

A variant is a copy of a product that has been created for a specific customer. When you create a variant, you are creating an extra copy of the product for sale. This means that each variant has a different SKU and may have different colors, sizes, and features.

By creating variants, you can increase your sales and provide more options to your customers. However, variations can also affect the price of the product.

When creating variants, it is important to keep in mind the price variation settings in your Shopify account. If you create a variant with a higher price, it will be displayed as a higher price on the product page and in your Shopify shop’s shopping cart. Similarly, if you create a variant with a lower price, it will be displayed as a lower price on the product page and in your Shopify shop’s shopping cart.

To avoid affecting the price of your products, it is important to make sure that you set the price variation settings correctly. To find out how to set the price variation settings for your Shopify shop, please visit our blog post: How to Set Price Variation Settings for Your Shopify Shop.

How Does Shopify Variants Impact Product Price?

Shopify’s variants allow you to create different versions of your product, each with its own unique set of attributes. This can be a great way to differentiate your product from similar ones on the market, but it can also have a negative impact on prices.

When you create a variant, you’re essentially creating an entirely new product. To determine the price for this new product, Shopify uses the base product’s price as a starting point. However, because variants are unique products with their own set of attributes, they often have different prices.

For example, let’s say you create a variant of your product called “Basic”. The Basic variant has no extra features than the standard version of the product, but it costs $10 less. If you sell 100 Basic products, the total cost (including taxes) would be $1,000. However, if you created a variant called “Enhanced”, which has all the features of the Basic version but also includes an extra attribute (“Enhanced”), the cost would be $11 instead of $10.

Because Enhanced products cost more than Basic products, selling 100 of them would increase the total cost of your product to $1,101 (including taxes). In this case, the Enhanced variant would have a higher price than the Basic variant, even though they both have the same set of features.
