How to Use Generative Fill in Photoshop? Possibilities

Generative Fill combines Adobe Firefly and Photoshop to allow for rapid enhancement, removal and extension of elements while matching lighting, perspective and shadows to produce realistic creations in less time than would normally take for manual creations.

Make a selection using any of the selection tools (marquee or lasso), then click Generative Fill in the contextual task bar. Enter text prompts or leave the box blank before clicking Generate for three AI-generated options.

Make a Selection

Generative Fill is an extremely useful tool for adding, subtracting, and expanding objects in photos – as demonstrated below. In addition, this technique excels at cleaning up panoramic photos – so check it out today if you want a clean photo!

To use Generative Fill in Photoshop, first select an area using either the marquee or Lasso tool and then click on the Generative Fill button from its new Contextual Task Bar (accessible via Window menu in upper-left screen corner). Enter text for prompt into box and then click Generate to generate fills automatically.

Generative Fill will produce multiple variations for you to select one for the selected area. Once applied, the Generative Fill object becomes editable like any other layer in Photoshop: hiding/showing layers, changing their blend mode/opacity/filter options etc… You can even modify its text prompt and generate more options if they don’t meet your expectations!

AI was designed to create realistic images, meaning that it tries to match the style and perspective of original scenes – shadows, reflections, lighting etc. In most cases the results look natural and authentic without forcing or overdoing anything.

As with the Firefly online app, it is best to use descriptive nouns and adjectives instead of vague terms such as “green grass.” For instance, prompts such as “Pink Tree” would work better.

Generative Fill takes some time to process its work, but that is only because its artificial intelligence (AI) works at full resolution – which is higher than most systems such as Firefly web tool. But this is actually good news; this ensures Generative Fill produces results of similar quality to what was seen originally.

Adobe’s beta feature of selecting and filling selections with content offers an upgrade over traditional methods of selection-filling, making this an excellent way to make larger changes to an image quickly and efficiently. We think many photographers will find themselves making use of it regularly!

Type a Prompt

Generative Fill is an incredible feature of Photoshop that allows users to non-destructively add, extend and remove content from an image. Simply select an object you would like to alter, type what it should become and click Generate; this tool will generate multiple options from which to choose and quickly make changes quickly while maintaining realistic-looking results. This tool provides users with fast yet realistic changes.

While this tool excels at replacing and extending objects, it falls short when it comes to adding new content. If you want to replace grass in a scene with water, for instance, multiple attempts might be required before reaching an accurate result. Also, adding an animal may not always work out successfully. For optimal results when adding content using this tool, start by making a selection and typing out what you want into the prompt box instead of instructive phrases or instructions.

One of the key strengths of Generative Fill is its ability to transform flat images into 3D scenes. You could, for instance, use this tool to add trees or statues to an otherwise plain landscape image – adding extra life and interest with trial and error! Using it effectively may make an image much more interesting!

Use the tool to add elements that were never part of the original image, for instance transforming raspberries into blueberries by selecting around them and typing ‘blueberries’ in the text prompt box. While results won’t be 100% convincing, they still look pretty convincing.

Generative Fill’s greatest strength lies in its ability to remove unnecessary elements from images. For example, you can quickly turn portraits of people into empty frames by selecting their image and typing ’empty’ into the prompt box. Although its results may not always be perfect, Generative Fill is truly impressive in how seamlessly it removes people from an image.

Extend the Canvas

Generative Fill is more than just an image editing tool: it can also extend an existing scene with new elements that blend seamlessly in. This process, known as outpainting, makes the addition of antique cars in street views of rain and grass easy: just select the area where they should go and type “Antique Car,” Generative Fill will produce photorealistic versions that fit right in with their surroundings.

Generative Fill works on an independent layer above the background, allowing you to change your mind and rerun its command without altering your original image. It can be used to replace individual objects or an entire background – and even used more surgically by changing clothing or adding jewelry; though this tool requires several requests and revisions before producing desired results.

Generative Fill excels at modeling most objects, but can struggle when dealing with living beings such as animals and people. Generative Fill can produce unnatural-looking animals while its generation of faces often looks out-of-place or misaligns with perspective or the body improperly.

Be mindful that Generative Fill does not create content based on other people’s work, brands or intellectual property; rather, it draws from Adobe Stock’s vast library of licensed high-resolution images – this helps prevent it from accidentally including copyrighted material in your image.

Once you have provided your text prompt and selected an area for generation, click Generate in the contextual task bar to send your request to Photoshop for processing. A set of three AI-generated results will appear in the Properties Panel so you can review them and select one to generate. Please be patient as Generative Fill is hardware intensive.

Generate

Generative Fill is an innovative software program that lets you add, extend, or remove content nondestructively from images. Useful for adding cupboards, people or even landscapes – Generative Fill makes your photos appear fully realistic in mere moments!

To start using this feature, select any selection with any selection tool and then click the Generative Fill button in the contextual taskbar that appears. Enter a text prompt describing what you wish to generate in an image – any language can be used or simply leave it blank!

Adobe has cautioned users that its living being generation capabilities may not be perfect, so use caution when adding human figures. You may have to test a few different text prompts until you reach a satisfactory result. Likewise, more detailed selection results in better outcomes – so for instance instead of selecting just hair alone you should select all aspects of a person’s head and face so as to prevent disjointed haircuts that do not match with the rest of their body.

Once you’ve generated several variations, choose one or two that you particularly enjoy to make further modifications to the image. Your new content will appear as a layer above the original one so you can move, hide, show it and adjust its blend mode and opacity as necessary – plus it’ll all be saved into the file so it’s easy to recreate them if necessary!

Generative Fill is an amazing new tool, but since it is still in beta testing mode you might not always achieve what you expect. For instance, replacing a car may not produce an appropriate model to match its surroundings and replacing textures of objects (such as an old chair ) might prove more challenging.
