How Do You Know if a Website is Using Shopify?

Have you ever visited a website you liked, such as an online shop, freelancer or independent artist? Ever wondered which website builder they used for their site?

There are many eCommerce website builders available today. Many of them offer similar-styled templates. It can be difficult to identify which one was used for creating a website.

How do I know if Shopify is being used on a website?

Shopify is a popular eCommerce platform that has been growing in popularity. Shopify is the most popular eCommerce website builder available, and it’s not hard to see why.

It is powerful enough to be used by large businesses, but easy enough to use for small businesses that want to quickly build an eCommerce site.

Shopify reports that online shops powered by Shopify made an astonishing $6.3 billion in 2021 during Black Friday/Cyber Tuesday holiday weekend. This is 23% more than the previous year.

Over 47 million people purchased from Shopify-powered eCommerce sites in the same weekend. Shopify eCommerce sites have a high chance of succeeding. How do you tell if a website uses Shopify?

Three ways to verify that an online business uses Shopify as its eCommerce platform are available.

Take a look at the URL Structure

The URL is a simple way to determine if a website uses Shopify. The URL is located at the top of a page when you search for a website.

Shopify websites use the same handles for product URLs and category URLs. If you look at the URL on the website’s sales page, is it “collections?”?

It’s likely that it’s a Shopify website.

Check The Source Code

You can also check the source code to determine if Shopify is being used on a website. Source code refers to the structure of a website, or any software. It is written in a human-readable programming languages. You can access a website’s source codes with just a few keystrokes. However, these may vary depending on the operating system of your computer.

MacOS

You should first visit the macOS website and then enter Option+Command+U. The screen should look like this:

This is the source code of the website. If the website uses Shopify as its platform, you can search the source code. Enter “Command+F” to search for the word and then type in “Shopify”.

For Windows and Linux

Enter CTRL+U if your computer’s operating systems are Windows or Linux. This will open the source code. Enter CTRL+F to search for the keyword shopify in the source code.

Use a Technology Lookup Tool

There’s another way to go if none of the above methods work for you. Any software that allows users to identify which technology is being used on a website is called a technology lookup tool.

These tools can be used to do market research and search engine optimization. They also allow you group websites that use the same technology. These are two technology search tools you can use in order to check if Shopify is used on a website.

Wappalyzer

Wappalyzer is a free technology search tool that allows users find out the host of a website, create lead lists, track competitors’ websites and more.

Go to Wappalyzer’s lookup page. Next, copy/paste the URL of the website that interests you, or type it manually. Finally, hit’search.

You should see a lot of information about your website, including metadata, company information and – obviously – the hosting platform.

Wappalyzer’s search tool allows you to quickly see if the site I entered was an eCommerce site created with Shopify. It also lets me see which payment processors have been enabled on the site.

BuiltWith

BuiltWith can also be used to find information about a website. You can access advanced tools like market share analytics and lead generation through its paid tiers. However, the site lookup tool is completely free.

Although it is less user-friendly than Wappalyzer, its interface works the same as Wappalyzer. You just need to enter the URL of your website in the search bar, and then hit “lookup.”

You should see a lot of information about the website.

This information will be visible under the ‘eCommerce heading if Shopify powers the site. It is not a Shopify website if there isn’t an eCommerce heading.

You only need two things to keep in mind when you visit a store that inspires or offers new ideas. First, what platform is this store using, and second, what theme is being used within the store.

Who doesn’t want to keep up with the latest e-commerce trends and apply them to their online businesses?

There are many ways to identify which platform is being used in an e-commerce store. Some of these traits can be easily identified (for example Log in to Shopify from the Shopify admin panel), while others may require you to install some tools.

They all work, but there is one commonality. Let’s start with the first.

With the assistance of Extensions

BuiltWith and Wappalyzer are extensions that can detect the technology used on a website when it is being viewed. Surprisingly they can also detect the platform where the website is hosted.

You can also find helpful and additional analytics from them.

Use the Shopify App/ Theme Detector

This tool can be used to check if your website is on Shopify. If it is, what theme is it using. This tool allows you to determine all these things. You can get the extension from the chrome webstore.

Navigate to the Admin Panel

Shop owners can log in to Shopify by visiting their admin panels. It is easy to identify and access the admin panel. You will need to identify the admin panel used to sign into Shopify in order to determine whether a store uses Shopify. This can be done by adding a “/admin” to the URL to test if it works.

By using inspect element

It is not to be confused with the thing for programmers and coders. It is possible that you clicked “inspect element” by accident or because of a known job. It is a console that displays all the HTML, CSS and Java codes running on a webpage. This feature can be used to determine if Shopify is installed on a store. To check, first open the console and hit the F12 key. You will then see an input field. Enter “Shopify Theme” into that field, and then hit the enter key. If you get a result, you will know that Shopify is used by the store and also the name of its theme.

Basic ideology

What is the commonality between Shopify stores? They all share the same URLs. We discussed the fact that shop owners use a simple URL. Register for Shopify . They also have a list of URLs, such as “/products/”. /cart or a similar structure to /collections. Shopify is the reason you see such a structure on the website when you navigate it.

Use the checkout page

Shopify’s Checkout process reveals whether a store uses Shopify. This is something that many people don’t know. You simply need to visit the store and add the item to your cart before proceeding to checkout. You will see the URL at checkout to find out if Shopify is used by the store. How? How?

You can also use other tools to accomplish this task. This list contains a number of plug-ins and tools that will help you determine whether a shop is using Shopify. It is easy to do without any effort.

  • Whatruns
  • SimilarTech
  • Wappalyzer
  • WebSpotter

These services can be used both as web applications and as extensions. All you have to do is visit the website, and everything else will take care of itself.
